What certificates will I receive upon successful completion of the course?
You will be granted a Qur’anic Ijaazah Diploma and a Tajweed Poem Memorization Certificate.
Will the diploma and the certificate be attested?
Yes, they will be attested by the Ministry of Culture and Higher Education of Somalia.
Where does the study take place?
The International Open University is an online educational resource. The entire program is taught online via Internet. Anybody from any part of the world can join easily and benefit from it, insha Allah. The Ijazah live sessions are conducted via Skype. Students who are not able to connect through Skype will join their classes through other software application – Ekiga. Hence, a student needs to have access to one of these programs.
Will the live classes be recorded?
Yes, the live sessions are recorded. This is to have evidence in case of any complaint from the student’s side or from the teacher. In this way, the administrator has the opportunity to return to the recording and investigate the problem. Note that the recordings are kept under highly restrictive secrecy, and they are automatically removed from Zoom every two weeks.
What if I have a slow Internet connection?
Since the program is completely based on the live classes, it is compulsory that the students have a high speed Internet connection to make the best use of all the services.
Is an English language certification like TOEFL or IELTS required?
No. English language certification(s) is not a requirement to apply for Ijazah program. However, you should be aware that English is the medium of instruction in the entire program.
Will the classes be conducted in the month of Ramadan?
The classes during Ramadan will be conducted as always. However, teachers have a right to cancel the live sessions during the last 10 days of Ramadan. These sessions will not be made up for.
Additionally, the first two days of Eid are officially off.
When is the enrollment open?
The enrollment is open from 1st to 10th of every month.
Do I need to pay any fee to study at the Ijaazah program?

I have received an email to reupload my photo/ID scan/recitation link. What do I do once I have taken care of that?
Once you have reuploaded your photo/ID scan/recitation link, email us at gqmc.helpdesk@iou.edu.gm so that we may verify the status of your uploads. Insha Allah.
What is a photo ID?
A photo ID is a legal identity document with your photograph in it (e.g. national ID card, passport, driver’s license, etc.). The document must be valid and include your full name and birth date.
How do I virtually sign the disclaimer form?
After reading carefully the disclaimer, sign it in the registration form by ticking the last box “Disclaimer” which states: “I have read and agree to the Disclaimer Form of GQMC”. There is no need to submit a document with your traditional signature.
I forgot my password. What should I do?
In order to reset your password, click on the ‘forgotten password’ button located just under the log in fields. If your password reset was not successful and you are still unable to log in, email at gqmc.helpdesk@iou.edu.gm . Please do not create a new account; having multiple accounts with IOU is not allowed under any circumstances.

I have memorized the entire Quran but need strong revision. Am I still eligible for the Ijaazah program?
The Quran memorization, revision, and especially the Ijaazah linked to the Prophet (PBUH) are an amanah in front of Allah. Therefore, if the student needs a strong revision, he/she should first take at least one semester in our One-on-One Quran Memorization course in order to revise the Quran or at least 20 chapters with the teacher.
Does IOU teach or offer ijaazahs for Qira'at other than Hafs?
We have many teachers who know the different Qira’at Alhamdulillah, but we focus on the Hafs as it covers 96 % of the Islamic nation.
I was not accepted to the Ijaazah program based on my recitation sample. What next?
Those Ijaazah applicants who still need to improve their tajweed are advised to attend a 6-month training period under the Ijaazah program. If their tajweed level is less than intermediate, they are advised to join the Tajweed Intensive program or one of the GQMC courses according to the evaluation and recommendation of the head of the department.
